As I mentioned before …
… Stodels is a pretty cool place to go when you’ve got small kids.
Normally I enjoy the luxury of having the place mostly to ourselves and a few other lucky ones who have the choice to go there during regular working hours.
Last week I experienced though that it can also be fun during its very busiest days – the school holidays.
We went there to meet Erik’s sibling kindergarten friends Karla and Paul to find the place packed with pool, water slide and – of course – masses of families frolicking all over eating ice creams, hopping on trampolines, splashing in the water or even cuddling huge snakes and iguanas. (lizard tongue sticking out over delighted little boys’ shoulders, claws hanging on to their arms, both looking very happy … In such situations my kids prefer a safe distance while I wish I was small enough to also get a turn).
Karla and Paul’s Mom had me green with envy as the two year age advance of her children allowed her to peacefully indulge in coffee drinking and scones eating while I was constantly helping Lilly up and down the irresistible slide. And still SHE is the one finishing the Two Oceans marathon last weekend!! Not fair.
Erik, the observer, was easy. first he watched the kiddie train, then the kids on the trampoline, then the kids on the waterslide until finally sitting down next to and striking up a conversation with an elderly lady on a bench.
All in all it was lots of fun, almost overwhelming, and the best part was feeding the animals (my personal favourite the tortoises of course).
Two Weeks Gone By Too Quickly
Amazing how quickly two weeks pass when you are having a good time.
Now my parents are already safely back home. Time to get back to blogging!
Obviously I must start with a couple of flashbacks to catch you up on all you’ve missed.
A stay in Cape Town wouldn’t be a proper one without at least one visit to Blauberg Strand. This time Anja was the lucky child to participate in the outing.
Look at those two love birds!
We miss you!

Today Boris left for a trip to Namibia. Have a great time, Boris!
Friends of the Tygerberg Hills
You might remember that we have the beautiful Tygerberg Nature Reserve at our doorstep where we have enjoyed picnics

and short walks in the past.

Now we are finally officially members of the “Friends of the Tygerberg Hills”
which not only grants us free entry to the reserve, but also allows us for instance to attend talks and join organised hikes.
For me this is the ideal opportunity to get fit while enjoying nature and I readily got up at 5am last Saturday to join the 5:30am hike.
There’s nothing better than being in nature at sunrise!
Here some pictures.
I must admit the pace was INCREDIBLE and for a while I thought I wouldn’t be able to keep it up for 2.5 hours, but then my body adjusted and it just felt so good!

Girl Time
It was Erik’s 4th day in Kindergarten today and after yet another awful goodbye scene he apparently had a pretty good time! He even drew a couple of beautiful pictures together with his Muh-Kuh! (his stuffed girl cow)
While he was enjoying himself (despite trying hard not to) we girls went for a nice walk at the dam. You’ve already seen the cute picture of little Miss in her summer outfit.
Now here is Anja taking a dip with the duck family …
… and Lilly enjoying the entertainment.
A Date
Last Saturday Glenn and I had AT LAST scheduled a date for us again and we thoroughly enjoyed a very yummy and relaxed breakfast at Nitida
http://www.tablesatnitida.co.za/services.html
followed by a little wine tasting.
This beautiful spot is only 10 minutes away from where we live. On our way home we stopped at Bloemendal
which was where I was SUPPOSED to leave Nena & Nobbi last March while taking Erik to his toddler class. Instead I’d accidentally taken them to Bloemendal wine cellar where they understandably didn’t care to stay for two hours.
Glenn’s ankle has been giving him trouble for the last couple of days which is why you will see him back on crutches. He’s much better today though!
The pictures will give my German friends a good idea of the area we live in. Vineyards everywhere, the sea and Table Mountain Range on one side, the Hottentot Holland Mountains on the other – look closely and don’t mistake them for clouds.
We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world!

Care to join us for a walk?
Highlight: walking in puddles!
We can also …
… watch the stream flow, …
…run!, …
… watch the duck family, …
… watch Anja doing funny things, …
… sit on tree trunks, …
… and – to round things up – WALK IN PUDDLES!
Happy Birthday, Lilly!
It’s Lilly’s first birthday today and while she and Erik are taking their nap I quickly bring you the highlights of the day (so far).
We got up early so we would have time for a family breakfast and unwrapping of presents. Our little sunshine has been in an extra good mood today since she woke up and enjoyed all the attention immensely.
Erik enjoyed helping Lilly unwrap her presents and had a hard time not claiming all of them for himself. Here are his and Lilly’s penguin becoming friends.
There is no question about which Lilly’s favorite present is …
After breakfast Geraldine, the kids and I went to the aquarium. Thanks to Geraldine Lilly could today enjoy the fishies from Mommy’s arm and get a lot more attention than usual!
Now we’re waiting for Granny and Oupa to come visit and Daddy is also coming home early!
More later!!
Lots of love from the Rabies!
Happy Birthday, Mimi!
Today is Miriam’s birthday!! We’ve just returned from a beautiful morning at Blauberg Strand and are now getting ready to start braai-ing (barbecueing).
The last couple of days have been great and busy and once again I have to present the highlights to you in a boring slideshow
Here we are – at Blauberg Strand, Tygerberg Nature Reserve, Two Oceans Aquarium, Camps Bay and an ostrich ranch.
Tomorrow we will take the cable car up Table Mountain!

Even In Winter …
… we have the most beautiful flowers and blossoms brightening up our rainy days.
We can presently admire this crane flower right outside Erik’s window.
