Another tough day at the office…

I had a wonderful opportunity to finally take an aerial tour of Cape Town this past week.

A work supplier launched a new product and took us on an aerial trip to celebrate. We went on the Atlantico trip with Cape Town Helicopters.

It was fantastic!

Here’s the helicopter that we took.
View from inside looking back at the hangar.

Take off! What an awesome experience…so smooth and fast. The only way to travel!
Lion’s Head
Sunset from 800m above the Alantic Seaboard!
Looking down at Clifton.
The tug pulling out the stranded ship in Clifton.
Coming back to town, looking down onto Sea Point.

Coming back down to land. You can see the city lights starting to turn on…great way to end a (work) day!

The man in the moon …

… looked out of the moon,

looked out of the moon and said:

“It’s time for all children on the Earth to …

… take photos of me!”

As you probably know last Saturday the moon was closest to Earth.

As Erik and I were reading a bedtime story about wolves and the moon I suddenly remembered and to Erik’s delight …

… I fetched my tripod and we had a very exciting photo session.

Erik was fascinated by the moon’s face and obviously HAD to also put his own camera on top of the tripod and take his own pictures.

I will soon post a selection of Erik’s shots. Here’s mine to start with. Or rather “ours” as Erik helped with everything.

Yet another visit to the fish

For a change the whole family visited the Two Oceans Aquarium today and Erik was thrilled to have his Daddy all to himself.

THAT’s why I can almost only show you pictures of Lilly.

This time she particularly enjoyed the touch pool, …

… the seahorses, …

… the frog ride (that her brother is still too chicken to ride), …

… the little mouse stealing the bird food in the penguin exhibit, …

(oh, hello, Erik!)

… the mole snake, …

… the penguins of course, …

… making friends, …

… playing on the toddler slide, …

… and playing peekaboo in the harbour restaurant.

As I mentioned before …

… Stodels is a pretty cool place to go when you’ve got small kids.

Normally I enjoy the luxury of having the place mostly to ourselves and a few other lucky ones who have the choice to go there during regular working hours.

Last week I experienced though that it can also be fun during its very busiest days – the school holidays.

We went there to meet Erik’s sibling kindergarten friends Karla and Paul to find the place packed with pool, water slide and – of course – masses of families frolicking all over eating ice creams, hopping on trampolines, splashing in the water or even cuddling huge snakes and iguanas. (lizard tongue sticking out over delighted little boys’ shoulders, claws hanging on to their arms, both looking very happy … In such situations my kids prefer a safe distance while I wish I was small enough to also get a turn).

Karla and Paul’s Mom had me green with envy as the two year age advance of her children allowed her to peacefully indulge in coffee drinking and scones eating while I was constantly helping Lilly up and down the irresistible slide. And still SHE is the one finishing the Two Oceans marathon last weekend!! Not fair.

Erik, the observer, was easy. first he watched the kiddie train, then the kids on the trampoline, then the kids on the waterslide until finally sitting down next to and striking up a conversation with an elderly lady on a bench.

All in all it was lots of fun, almost overwhelming, and the best part was feeding the animals (my personal favourite the tortoises of course).

Weekend For Two :) :)

Before my parents came to visit Glenn and I spent a lovely night away in Tulbagh (thanks to Granny and Oupa! Thank you!)

Since our little camera is now at the doctor’s all I have to offer is this gallery of the wonderful time  we spent enjoying good food and wine, relaxed conversation, great scenery, good music by Albert Frost http://www.albertfrost.com and Arno Carstens, a bit of sightseeing and best of all (for me) just staring into space and saying/doing nothing while sipping my coffee/wine/whatever.
