It’s A Lilly!
Hello!
I’m Lillian. And I’m a giiiiiiiiiiiiiiirl!
And I’m going to drive my brother nuts!
Because I’m just too cute already.
Although I must admit he was also quite a cutie when he was my age, don’t you think? (just to be clear – that’s him below)
Resemblence? How dare you!
Ayana Coming To Visit
Yesterday Kath and Ayana came to visit us!
In a few years time Erik may be showing off his bike to the ladies of his heart.
For now he shows them the kitchen cupboard.
It seems to work – Ayana seemed impressed.
Cute bum!
Hey, Ayana’s Mama!
Leave us alone! We’re busy.
Erik must really like her. He even let her drive his car!
Miscellaneous
Erik is growing up so fast – last Thursday he went through the day with only a single nap for the first time. After a few weeks of going through nap time fights with Mama this is now such a pleasure for both of them! It feels as though the day was twice as long.
Erik used the time wisely and practised sticking suction cups to his forehead and looking as silly as possible …
… and loving and looking after his new sibling …
(u-oh!)
Yesterday Erik impressed Mama by arranging the contents of our kitchen cupboard neatly on the windowsill …
Less impressive was how a minute later he took the groceries piece by piece and threw them out the window into the flowerbed.
Today is Saturday which for Meli (and Erik) usually means breakfast with Ant. Since Erik doesn’t like sitting still for one minute (unless he’s tired) we went to Deerpark Cafe again where Erik thoroughly enjoyed himself and Mama had a chance to eat her bacon and eggs while he …
explored the playground, …
…chased birdies, found a ball, …
… turned the big wheel all by himself, …
… pole danced, …
… and practised climbing.
Oh, yes – Ant says hi!
We spent the rest of the day moving Glenn’s study upstairs and thus cleaning out Lilly’s room. Internet’s now finally working properly upstairs and Meli is presenly happily blogging from her little study space in the playroom.
Pictures will follow soon!
Have a great weekend, Everyone!
Over The … Wall?
You remember the HEDGE, right? http://kohlrabie.wordpress.com/2009/11/07/over-the-hedge/
And the sequel, too? http://kohlrabie.wordpress.com/2010/01/24/busy-saturdays/
Anyway, the saga continues as we now proudly present:
The Wall!
After exploring a number of options (timber fence, bamboo fence, wire fence …) we actually decided on a vibracrete wall – something Meli always thought to be one of the very ugliest things in SA’s construction world.
Nevertheless she did agree that it is a good thing to have a solid border to the neighbors (that we still haven’t got) which can then be BEAUTIFIED! … with bamboo maybe, paint … and/or PLANTS of course.
Happy Meli had no trouble at all convincing her hubby that Erik and she must head off to the nursery last Saturday to purchase the shrubs which she had long ago selected as her choice of hide-the-wall-and-beautify-our-ugly-corner plants.
The results are two Hibiscus and three Bottlebrush bushes!
For those of you who are not familiar with the latter – they will hopefully quickly grow into something like this:
And this was just the third step on our way to turning our barren, unused corner in front of Lilly’s nursery into our future “relaxation corner” .
Next Saturday Asanda will dig up the soil in the corner to prepare the ground for more pretty bushes along the side of the house (lavender, etc.), then we will have something like a pergola put up over the window and a new window put in; the steps must be replaced and a nice little bench will go next to it.
Eventually the unused scullery stairs …
…will have to go, opening up the corner and extending our garden.
Ahh! Still a vision, but just those few shrubs alone have made the corner look so much nicer allowing us to imagine what it can and hopefully will look like by next summer!
PS.: By the way, that green thing is a tent which we built for our Pride of India. This little tree can’t stand the sun and the wind yet, but will grow up to be a beauty like this (well, hopefully not quite so big):
Nicky’s Birthday
Yesterday we drove up the Westcoast to visit Glenn’s sister Cindy and her family in Vredenburg. Erik’s cousin Nicky (left) …
was celebrating his fifth birthday and Erik was invited.
Erik had a great time as he got to do some of his favorite things:
Run around …
… play with bubbles …
… ride a vehicle …
… and play with DADDY!
Playing is hard work!
Looking cute is easy!
Mama, will you STOP taking pictures of me now!
OK, OK, soooorry. Cousin Michael …
is also incredibly cute and similarly inclined.
Watching the older kids is just sooo fascinating!
Older girls are wooonderful!
And Mama’s the best (esp. Mama with BUBBLES!)
After a few fights …
… and kids stuck in trees …
… we headed back home, resolving to return soon to this beautiful part of the Western Cape.
Lillies and Ginger Kitties
Erik’s little sibling is now halfway grown and making her presence known on a daily basis. Kick kick, squirm squirm…
We still don’t know what she has decided to be although the doctor thinks she looks more like a little girl! Since we like Lillian for a girl’s name Ms. Incognito has for the moment become known as Lilly and is already firm part of our family:
The next “insider” pictures will be posted in ten days time when she will maybe also reveal her big secret. So keep checking!
Until then please feel free to post name suggestions!!
By the way, in case you were wondering about our new furry addition to the family – that plan was put on hold when we found out Meli was pregnant again.
We are still keen though to get our little ginger kitty when Lilly is a few months old. Erik is crazy about kitties already – they are his favorite in his picture books. He also makes a very sweet little kitty himself “MIOUW!”
During our lovely stop on our way back from Aurora all of us found it hard to resist taking this little one home with us straight away:
Family Visit!
Miriam, Sebastian and Anna are visiting us at the moment. Here some quick highlights from the last couple of days:
Camps Bay
Cape Point
Mountain Mist cottage by Aurora
Easter Bunnies after an evening of card playing
Easter egg hunt on a chilly morning
Coffee stop on the way home
Although it’s really Reimann’s holiday, Meli feels like it’s our’s, too – with all the outings, sightseeing, time away and Glenn having six(!) days off!!!
More pictures coming soon …
Happy Easter to all of you!!
